With less than a month before the end of 2024, the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) plan to reduce emissions through the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) is seeing less progress than expected.
This past January, the USPS unveiled the first batch of EVs to join its vehicle fleet, part of the agency’s Delivering for America plan. Included in the plan was the securement of $3 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act to assist with the deployment of EVs and their related charging infrastructure, but this might hit some roadblocks starting in January.
According to a recent Reuters article, Trump’s transition team is already looking to terminate the USPS contracts related to EV purchases, including those made with Oshkosh and Ford. The contract with Ford included the purchase of more than 9,000 Ford E-Transit vans, while OshKosh’s initial agreement included 50,000 Next Generation Delivery Vehicles.
As of this November, less than 100 of the Oshkosh trucks have been delivered, according to a Washington Post article.
