Director of Emerging Technologies
Rick Mihelic is the Director of Future Technologies Studies at the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE). His work at NACFE includes confidence reports on determining efficiency, tractor aerodynamics, trailer aerodynamics, and two-truck platooning, as well as guidance reports on commercial electric vehicles. As President of Mihelic Vehicle Consulting LLC, Rick’s 37 years of industry experience includes 20 years in commercial vehicle development for Peterbilt creating aerodynamic vehicles and groundbreaking systems including the Peterbilt/Cummins DOE SuperTruck and developing vehicles and systems in compliance with the EPA greenhouse gas standards. Rick is active in SAE Commercial Vehicles and ATA TMC Future Truck task forces and committees. In 2016, Rick was awarded the prestigious SAE L. Ray Buckendale Award, and published the SAE L. Ray Buckendale lecture paper, Fuel and Freight Efficiency: Past, Present and Future Perspectives. Prior to this, Rick spent 12 years in advanced technology R&D programs for Lockheed with DOD, NASA, and DOE. Rick currently sits on the board of the ISEEK Corporation.
