The 2024 ACT Expo Fleet Award winners were announced on Monday, May 20 at ACT Expo in Las Vegas. The annual ACT Expo Fleet Awards recognize fleets and individuals leading the shift to near-zero and zero-emission transportation. The winners have shown true leadership in sustainable transportation, demonstrating a commitment to improving air quality in their communities and successfully transitioning to cleaner technologies within their fleet operations.
“The ACT Expo Fleet Awards celebrate the trailblazers who are setting new standards in the industry,” noted Erik Neandross, president of TRC’s Clean Transportation Group (formerly GNA), which produces ACT Expo. “Their efforts in adopting low- and zero-emission vehicle technologies demonstrate the remarkable impact that forward-thinking fleets can have on our environment and communities. Leading Global Fleet: Amazon
Amazon has demonstrated its outstanding global leadership in sustainable transportation, focusing on all aspects from inbound transportation (spanning road, rail, air, and water) to the last mile across the U.S., Europe and India. Committed to achieving net-zero carbon by 2040 through The Climate Pledge, Amazon’s fleet team has advanced decarbonization efforts by enhancing fleet efficiency, using low-carbon fuels, and scaling electric and alternative-fuel vehicles. Transit and Mobility Award: Revel Transit
Revel Transit, a trailblazer in for-hire vehicle services and coinciding charging infrastructure, is at the forefront of the electrification transformation in New York City, proving that sustainability and convenience can coexist. The nation’s first all-electric rideshare service consists of sky-blue Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, and Kia Niro EVs and is powered by the company’s network of complimentary public DC fast-charging stations strategically located across NYC. Leading Public Fleet: Beaverton School District The Beaverton School District in Oregon not only operates the largest transportation fleet in the state, it operates one of the cleanest bus fleets in the nation. In 2023, the district transitioned from conventional fuels to a combination of renewable propane, renewable diesel, and battery-electric buses. This transition has allowed the school district to reduce emissions, while saving on operating costs and allowing more investment in clean buses. Leading Shipper/Carrier Partnership: Schneider & PepsiCo
PepsiCo is a demonstrated leader in innovation and environmental stewardship, focusing on reducing its carbon footprint through the scaled deployment of hundreds of low- and zero-emission over-the-road and last-mile delivery vehicles and renewable fuels. As part of the “PepsiCo Positive” initiative, PepsiCo aims for net-zero emissions by 2040 and a 75% reduction by 2030, supported by technician training and collaboration with third-party carriers for sustainable deliveries. Beyond its own fleet operations, PepsiCo has also partnered with Schneider, a premier provider of transportation and logistics services that is driving more environmentally responsible shipping by increasing the efficiency of its diesel fleet and deploying low- and zero-emission vehicles. In Southern California, Schneider has been transporting goods for PepsiCo and other customers with a scaled fleet of nearly 100 Class 8 battery-electric trucks, supported by an electric charging depot at its South El Monte Intermodal Operations Center. Leading Private Fleet: First Student
First Student is leading the way in electric school bus transportation, with plans to transition 30,000 diesel vehicles to battery-electric by 2035. The organization’s existing fleet of more than 300 electric school buses has already achieved a major milestone: 3 million electric miles. First Student recently received recognition for the creation of an innovative charging infrastructure solution, FlexCharge, which offers above-ground, mobile charging units that eliminate the need for trenching, making it easier and more cost-effective to implement. UNFI (United Natural Foods, Inc.) has established itself as a leader in sustainable food distribution through a multifaceted approach focused on efficiency and environmental responsibility. In addition to continuously upgrading its fleet to the latest, most efficient models, UNFI pilots emerging technologies and alternative fuels. A prime example is the company’s deployment of more than 50 state-of-the-art zero-emission 48’ transport refrigeration units (eTRUs) to deliver refrigerated goods to its customers with less noise and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Sysco, a global leader in foodservice distribution, integrates environmental sustainability across its global supply chain, including sourcing, energy, transportation, agriculture, and waste reduction. In 2009, Sysco acquired its first natural gas tractor, marking the beginning of decades of innovation aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By 2013, Sysco had expanded its fleet of CNG tractors and started transitioning its forklift fleet to hydrogen power. By 2019, Sysco had deployed 100 electric single-axle trucks. Today, in 2024, Sysco has made significant investments in electrifying its fleet, leading to major reductions in Scope 3 emissions.
