Zeem Solutions announced the development of an electric truck mega-depot near Port Newark, New Jersey. With Phase I operations planned for late 2024, the site will serve regional fleet operators with electric trucks, overnight parking and charging for 200 trucks, and additional charging for up to 300 electric trucks during the day.
Fleet operators of all vehicle classes will also be able to utilize the charging depot, including airport shuttle, rental car, rideshare, and last-mile delivery operators. Zeem Solutions will also have a fleet of Class 8 battery-electric tractor trucks available, as well as additional battery-electric vehicles that businesses can operate via Zeem Solutions’ Electric Fleet-As-A-Service model, which is currently operating out of their headquarter depot in Los Angeles.
With a large 30-megawatt (MW) interconnect, 76 ports of DC fast charging, and other amenities, the site is ideally located near Newark Airport, New York and New Jersey’s marine port terminals, warehousing and distribution facilities, transportation companies, and the northern entrance to Port Newark. As the Zeem Solutions depot begins operations, a measurable reduction in diesel emissions will improve air quality for the local community.
Fleets are already working with Zeem Solutions to electrify their East Coast drayage operations. Port24, a leading transportation and logistics company, will be operating out of Zeem’s Newark depot as soon as it is operational. Zeem Solutions utilized funding from the NJ Zero Emission Incentive Program (NJZIP) to deploy its Port Newark EV depot, marking a significant step towards reducing emissions in East Coast port drayage operations.
