Agility Fuel Solutions and battery pack maker Romeo Power Technology have partnered to produce light, customizable battery packs for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses.
Romeo and Agility say the battery will degrade slower than batteries on the market today, because it is self-monitoring. A system within the battery pack analyzes its battery cells to prevent or fix issues like loss of thermal energy or over- and undercharging. If something is not working properly within one of the cells, that particular cell can be isolated and switched off in order to prevent further damage or energy loss.

Romeo is providing the technology while Agility focuses on the customization of the battery packs for specific customers.
Romeo Power, based in Vernon, Calif., is a veteran battery pack builder having supplied the component for makers of drones and electric vehicles.
Todd Sloan, Agility’s vice president of engineering, said the largest and most ideal market for the battery packs will be for use in of hybrid commercial vehicles.
